Born in New York City, Walter Randa is the founder of Leading Edge De-icing Specialist’s. After graduating from an Aviation Technical School in 1984, he began his career in the aviation industry. Walter dedicated the last 37 years to
Airline Operations & Safety.
In 1989, he started working as a Safety Trainer for UPS in Montreal, Canada, where he was introduced to Canada’s cold winters and aircraft de-icing.
Since 1992, Walter has been providing Winter Operations training to Air Ramp personnel and created a program specifically for Flight & Maintenance crews in 1997, called “Fly Clean, Fly Safe.” He has demonstrated ongoing creativity in providing customers with quality standardized training programs, leading to the development of innovative tools such as the MTU (Mobile training Unit), a near full-size Bombardier Learjet 40XR that provides a simulated environment for hands-on
de-icing practice, ultimately enhancing overall safety.
The latest development from Leading Edge is the portable Aircraft Anti-icing System called WING ARMOR, primarily used for in-hangar sprays. This system allows Super Large Business Jets to be treated and protected with precise quantities of Type II, III, and IV fluid. WING ARMOR provides Pilots with Safe & Rapid departures, reduces delays, and minimizes the high costs associated with using large commercial de-icing operators such as CDF’s.
WING ARMOR has also developed a portable Aircraft De-icing System called JETstream. R&D began in 2020 and the prototype was built 2 years later. Our fully equipped model will serve the aviation community worldwide.
In 1997, Walter graduated from Flight Safety Academy in Vero Beach, Florida, where he earned a Commercial, Multi-engine, and Instrument rating. In 2001, he became certified by IATA for Management of Airside Safety and Airline Safety Audits, allowing him to perform Aircraft De-icing & Air Ramp Safety Audits worldwide. Despite his busy schedule, Walter continues his ongoing passion for flying as a Private Pilot.
